On Friday, 23 July 2021, the National EMS Memorial One-Day Bike Ride was held between Crystal City and Herndon, VA. Sixty EMS providers participated in the 47-mile, round-trip ride honoring 72 EMS Line-of-Duty Deaths in 2019 and 2020. Kate Passow, a Life Member with the Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad, was instrumental in setting up the course, lunch for all participants, and the event overall. She was joined on the bike ride by Marybeth Henry, also from Sterling Rescue. On the support side, Richard Nguyen and Lynn Beard, Administrative Members for Sterling Rescue, assisted in providing refreshments, first-aid, directions, and transportation for the participating cyclists.

The One-Day Bike Ride was held as part of the Weekend of Honor, and in support of the National EMS Memorial Service. Normally the Weekend of Honor (and the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride) is held in conjunction with EMS Week sometime in May, but the global pandemic forced some changes this year. In September, there will be five EMS Memorial Bike Rides held across the country.
