Exploring Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad

Taking it to the Streets . . .

Sterling Rescue was “taking it to the streets” over the past weekend, providing EMS support to the 91st Annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, VA from 4-5 May, and participating in the Dulles International Airport Disaster Drill on 5 May 2018.

During the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, the Sterling Rescue Bike team provided roving EMS support for the event, in addition to Utility Vehicle (UTV) support. Sterling Rescue is a regular participant in this event and helps provide EMS support year-after-year.

On 5 May, Sterling Rescue participated in a full-scale simulation involving a security breach, an airplane on fire and a commercial plane veering off the runway with a broken landing gear — all for the sake of hands on-training, at Dulles International Airport. Multiple agencies from across the Washington Metro Area participated in the exercise to test their response to a mass causality incident at the airport.
