Congratulations to Maria who is now an Attendant in Charge (AIC) with Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad (SVRS) Day Crew, marking a significant step in her journey of service, compassion, and future aspirations in the medical field.
Maria is also a high school math teacher, primarily focused on Algebra II and Precalculus, which balances her passion for education with her dedication to emergency medical services. Outside of school and squad hours, she is preparing for the MCAT, with plans to attend medical school in the next year or two. Her ultimate goal is to specialize in pediatric neurology, a field she describes as, “so very important, yet there are a limited number of quality providers.”

Maria holds a degree in neuroscience, so with her academic background coupled with her field experience at SVRS, she continues to deepen her understanding of patient care and medical practice.

When asked why she joined SVRS, Maria shared, “Paying it forward. Joining the squad gives me a chance to give back to the same people who have been there for my loved ones. I want to share in this chain of support, kindness, and service.”

Beyond the classroom and ambulance, Maria enjoys playing guitar and piano, and baking. SVRS is honored to have Maria on the team and celebrates her continued commitment to learning, service, and community.

Want to join a great team and work with people like Maria? Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad currently has openings for both operational and administrative volunteers. The operational volunteers serve as first responders, delivering emergency medical support to the community. The administrative volunteers perform a variety of support roles in areas such as recruiting, membership support, and business operations. No experience is required, and training is provided.  https://sterlingrescue.org/join/
