At Noon on Saturday, October 7, 2023, the new Rescue Station 15 at 104 Commerce Street, Sterling, VA, was ceremonially opened during SterlingFest 2023. SterlingFest is the Sterling community’s annual “block party” celebration of Sterling culture and life. The ceremony began with the lowering of the flag at the adjacent temporary station at 203 East Holly Avenue and the raising of the flag at the new station, by an Honor Guard from Loudoun County Fire and Rescue. Next, Loudoun County Supervisor Chair at Large Phyllis Randall and Vice Chairman Koran Saines (Sterling District) opened the station’s bay doors to the public, to signify that this state-of-the-art fire and rescue station was now available to serve the citizens of Sterling Park and Loudoun County.

After the ceremony, the station was opened to the public. There were tours of the station, rescue vehicles and equipment. Adults and children alike could interact with Sterling Rescue members and view our substantial Advanced Life Support capabilities. The station tours and ambulance tours were very popular. There was a technical rescue demonstration, where fire and rescue experts removed the top of a vehicle with saws and the “jaws of life,” to simulate rescuing a trapped patient from a wrecked vehicle.  It was a great day.

The new station will open operationally on October 11th, and will serve the community for decades to come. A big thanks to all who helped to bring this capability to fruition for the community!

Want to join a great team and work at this beautiful new station? Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad currently has openings for both operational and administrative volunteers. The operational volunteers serve as first responders, delivering emergency medical support to the community. The administrative volunteers perform a variety of support roles in areas such as recruiting, membership support, and business operations. No experience is required, and training is provided. See the Join section of this web site for more details on the requirements, expectations, and benefits. Come join us!
