Sterling Rescue regrets to announce the passing Arlyn Black, businessman, longtime resident, active community supporter, and an Honorary Member of the Sterling Park Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Arlyn moved into the Sterling Park in the 1960’s at the same time a new community was being established in Eastern Loudoun County along with a new Rescue Squad. Arlyn was quick to become an integral part of the community and would eventually be affectionately known as the Gentle Giant or the Mayor of Sterling. His involvement in the community could be felt everywhere whether it was supporting youth sports leagues, community activities, or local schools. His contributions also went beyond Sterling Park by his activities on other nonprofit endeavors in Loudoun County.

Arlyn’s support of Sterling Rescue in the early years included the use of his service station for housing equipment, assisting in securing the land for the Fire/Rescue station in Sterling Park, business advice, and just fellowship. Arlyn’s contributions resulted in establishing a lasting foundation and tradition of serving our community which still exists today.
