Scott Rein was recently released as a Paramedic-level provider for Sterling Rescue, our highest level of certification for pre-hospital care. To achieve this, Scott had to first pass a rigorous training program, then obtain certification at the National and Virginia levels. After that, he completed a months-long precepting program, where he was evaluated while responding to actual emergency calls under the supervision of an experienced and specially-certified Paramedic Preceptor. Having done a great job at all requirements, Scott is now released as an independent Paramedic provider, capable of responding to the full range of community emergency medical service needs.
Scott has spent decades serving his Country and his community. He first served as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad while a student at UVA. His experience as an EMT inspired him to serve as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years, with combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. With a desire to continue to serve his community, Scott completed Paramedic training in 2022 and joined Sterling Rescue in May of 2023.
Why does Scott volunteer with Sterling Rescue? In his words: “There’s no greater honor than helping someone on their worst day. I appreciate the opportunity to connect with my patients and share compassion, even if simply to offer a smile.” Scott also enjoys working with the team at Sterling Rescue: “I’m grateful to serve with incredibly dedicated and talented teammates at Sterling Rescue. I learn from them on every shift.”
