Sumaiyah Ali Released as a Paramedic

Sumaiyah Ali is Sterling Rescue’s newest Paramedic, which is our highest level of certification for pre-hospital care. This is not quick or easy. Sumaiyah had to first pass a rigorous training program, then obtain certification at the National and Virginia levels. After that, she completed a months-long precepting program, where she was evaluated while responding to actual emergency calls under the supervision of an experienced and specially-certified Paramedic Preceptor. Having done a great job at all requirements, Sumaiyah is now released as an independent Paramedic provider, capable of responding to the full range of community emergency medical service needs.

Sumaiyah joined Sterling Rescue in 2017, when she was a freshman in college. She began as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), then was certified as an Advanced EMT and finally Paramedic, attending training available from Loudoun County Fire and Rescue’s Training Academy. During this time, she also completed a degree in neuroscience and is now a graduate student at Shenandoah University.

Why does Sumaiyah volunteer with Sterling Rescue? In her words- “I started volunteering as a way to figure out what career path I wanted to follow.  Once I joined, I was quickly found my affinity for helping others and EMS. I have learned so much over the years from my crew, mentors, and patients I have encountered in the community.  I hope to further my career by following in the steps of my mentors and pursue higher education in medicine.”

Want to join a great team and work with people like Sumaiyah? Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad currently has openings for both operational and administrative volunteers. The operational volunteers serve as first responders, delivering emergency medical support to the community. The administrative volunteers perform a variety of support roles in areas such as recruiting, membership support, and business operations. No experience is required, and training is provided.
